The Family BudgetPrivacy policy

The Family Budget (“we”, “us”) is operated by Margin & Method Co, Indianapolis, IN. This policy explains what we collect when you buy and use The Family Budget, and what we do with it.
What we collect
- Account details: the email address and password you sign in with. Passwords are stored hashed by our login provider; we can’t see them.
- Budget data: what you type into the app: household and earner names, paycheck amounts, budget lines, bank account names, debts, bonus plans and notes. We don’t connect to your bank and never ask for bank logins or account numbers.
- Purchase details: Square processes your payment. We receive your email, the amount paid and a payment reference. We never see or store your card number.
- Email list (only if you sign up): if you ask for the free printable pages, we keep your email address to send them and occasional budgeting tips and product news.
- Basic technical data: our hosting and database providers keep standard logs (such as IP address and time of request) for security and troubleshooting.
How we use it
- To provide the app, keep your budget in sync across your devices, and let you share it with the partner you invite.
- To send account emails, like your invite and password resets.
- If you joined the email list: to send the free pages and occasional emails. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.
- To handle purchases, refunds and support requests, and to meet tax and legal obligations.
We don’t sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it except with the service providers below.
Who processes it
- Supabase: database and logins.
- Netlify: website hosting.
- Square: payments.
- Brevo: sending account emails and running the email list.
Who can see your budget
Only the people on your household (you and the one partner you invite). Each household is separated in the database by access rules. We access budget data only if you ask us to for support, or if required by law.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your budget while your account is open. You can download a copy or delete your budget and login anytime in Settings; deleting removes your budget data permanently (backups, if any, expire within 30 days). We keep purchase records as required for tax and accounting.
Children
The Family Budget is for adults. We don’t knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or export your data. Most of this you can do yourself in Settings; for anything else, email marginandmethodco@gmail.com.
Changes
If we change this policy we’ll update the date above, and email you about significant changes.
